Neuss to Wisseler See

Neuss to Rheinberg to Kalker
Day 65 - Tuesday - August 16
Happy Birthday Megan
We figured that this 400+ room hotel only had 10% occupancy. It was odd. It took us 2 hours to get through the 7 miles of the Dusseldorf/Neuss area this morning, traveling mostly through industrial areas, shipping channels and power plants.
The bike path circles up to bridge level. We thought it would be fun riding down but didn't want to go UP to try it out.
All pavement is not created equal.
We stopped at this cafe in Uerdingen for lunch because it looked like it had spaghetti. It turned out that the spaghetti was made out of ice cream. This was one time that the language issue really worked out in our favor!

After a cloudy morning, everyone was enjoying the sunshine. We ended our day in Rheinberg. The Rhein route followed every bend in the river so our mileage and time estimate was just a little off. Fortunately we found a place to stay first try.
Day 66 - Wednesday - August 17
No raindrops this morning!!
Just animal droppings.
From an interpretive sign...a picture of the 1995 flood.
The farm dog just taking in the sun. Very few dogs bark at bicycles or even show an interest since they see so many of them. Of course, we wouldn't understand them if they did because they would be barking in German.
The corn just keeps getting taller.
Xanten was originally a Roman town. Now the Roman town is an archeological park. There are a couple of original structures but most are only replicas.
The "new" town of Xanten was more interesting.

St. Viktor Chuch
This is a wood carving.

The remains of a Roman temple.
Our campground for the night was on Wisseler See (Lake).  It had a gymnasium too.
