Mediterranean Sea to see

Valencia to Nules Playa to Capicorb
Day 15 - Monday - June 27
What a difference some latitude and a sea makes. Notice the long sleeves! It was at least 20F cooler. Hurray!
Valencia's awful traffic was offset by a parkway that was an oasis in the middle of the city. It also took us to the road we needed to take out of town.
The Valencia version of rent-a-bike.
The Palace of Fine Arts (back).....
.....and front.

Unfortunately, they are still working on this end of the park and bike access and this ramp was NOT bike-friendly, especially with cleats on your shoes.
It can't be a real old castle because it defys the "Law of Castles", way too flat and low.
This very nice bike path appeared as we left the city. It took us all the way to Pucol.
It even had rest areas! Unfortunately, the wonderful bikepath was followed by 3 miles on the freeway............wide shoulder but really noisy.
Lunch at the Cepsa gas station. We had discovered that they carried really good sandwiches and sometimes they even had tables but not this one.
From Don Quixote to El Cid.
Our camp spot at the Costa de Levante campground at Nules Playa, our first chance to camp on the Mediterranean coast. It came with its very own, very productive ant colonies. Fortunately they didn't move the tent while we were away.
The water is as warm...........
....... and as blue as advertised.
Day 16 - Tuesday - June 28
This fine fellow whistled us to a stop just as we were starting on a highway. He led us to the bikepath which was a much better alternative, especially since bicycles weren't allowed on that section of road.
It led us to this amazing rail-to-trails path. We thanked that angel-of-the-road many times in the next 20  miles for flatness instead of hills.

It was called the Viat Verde and even had interpretive signs.......
........short tunnels (shade)..........
.........deep through cuts........
...and one really, really long tunnel at the end.

We had to share this narrow piece of tarmac with cars, though not very many of them.
Boy were we surprised that this was the entry to the campground we had been seeking. It couldn't have been more different from last night's camp.
This couple literally have all their worldly belongings on their bikes. They went north in search of work without luck. They are headed back south to Granada.
Our camp and.........
.............the typical European camper. They can actually rent a space for an entire year so some of them get quite elaborate.

The end of an amazing day.

Your pictures are so good, Donna. Just like being there with you and Doug. Sending link to Aubrey/Bree as she may recognize some of the Spain sites from her year abroad in Madrid. You are on the trip of a lifetime!!!! Feel honored to be part of the loop, Aline
