July 16 - We continue to follow the Old Yellowstone Highway north when we can. This little town must be Sweet Home's sister town. It's population is about 1200 and it was very neat and had nice parks.
We could see the Tetons in the distance all day but they were pretty hazy.
Just on the outskirts of Ashton we found Tony Farque' (Donna's co-worker) standing on the side of the road waving wildly. Tony, Sandy, Loren and Andre' were on their way to Yellowstone and Madison Campground where we will join them in a couple of days.
We met this guy while climbing into the caldera that contains Island Park and Henry's Fork of the Snake River. He and 2 companions had started in Yorktown, PA.
A little later we meet the other 2 guys he was traveling with. They complained about a headwind but we hadn't noticed it at all!
This is Island Park ... the inside of a really big caldera in the Targhee National Forest.
Main Street is 23 miles long!
Our improvised shade and napping place.
Our little spot next to a beaver-influenced creek at Buffalo Run RV Park. They had great pizza in their store and let us watch the Tour de France rest day recap for an hour and a half that evening. They also kept the leftover pizza for us so we could have it for breakfast.
July 17 - This is the Henry's Fork of the Snake River at the north end of Island Park ... only 20 miles from where we stayed in Island Park. It is at the foot of Targhee Pass.
Doug felt right at home at this place.
Howard Springs Wayside ... with a restroom and really cold water.
The top ... Targhee Pass and the Continental Divide at 7072' and we are finally out of Idaho too. It was pretty easy compared to the climb into the caldera containing Island Park.

Hello Montana!
We know just how this guy felt.
West Yellowstone had these buffalo all over the place. This one is in front of "Freeheel and Wheel" (telemark skiing and bike shop, just our kind of place).
This is the first summer that they have put these old buses back in service and everyone is very proud of them. It was in front of the museum which we took in after lunch.
This museum was originally the railroad depot.

Our little camp spot was right in the corner between Bart and Lori trailer and Bart's parents RV. Dinner was delicious spareribs and lots of visiting.
Lori and Donna watching the kids play.
Bart, Lori, Cody and Abby with a very happy dad and grandpa.
Bob and Nancy, Bart's parents, and the kids
